This book is really two books. It is a biography and it is also a pictorial retrospective of an actress whose greatest love affair was conceivably with the camera.

Since the text has been written by the author many consider our most important American writer, and it is his first biography, that is literary news. It is, however, much more than that. MARILYN is a major biography, a full attempt to understand a beautiful, complex, and tragic woman.
