 CLOVIS POINT
This Clovis point was excavated at the Dent Site in association with articulated mammoth remains near Dent, Colorado. This specimen was excavated and studied in place ; with the extinct bones. Clovis points are some of the oldest chipped stone dart points found in North America dating about 10,000 B.C. Outline: These points are usually a narrow leaf shape wtih the midsection usually the broadest. The edges may ! be straight to convex with the lower end (proximal) edge ground. In some specimens, the edge grinding may be substantial producing a concave edge. Flutes, usually of multiple flakes, are present on the proximal end, often on only one side. Furthermore, the flutes are usually not the same size with one side having a longer and more even flute than the other. The bases are always concave.
